Advertising results have been decreasing 

Many shop owners are surprised to find out that advertising results have been declining for the last decade.  In some cases, substantially.  In simple terms, the reason for the decline is information overload.  Today, the average US consumer sees about 7,000 marketing messages per day.  The problem is that the more message there are, the less they can be noticed.  People tune them out because it is helps ensure a healthy mind. 

When too much information is fired at us, our brain reacts negatively and often we cannot handle it.  So, we learn to avoid too much information.  We sort the mail over the trash can, we use the remote control and DVR to tune out commercials, and we push the buttons when a commercial comes on the radio.

Have you ever noticed that when you buy a new car which you rarely saw before you bought it, only to see it as very common AFTER you buy it?  That's your mind at work, trying to keep you focused on the few things in life that matter.  We simply cannot take it all in, there's too much and we would literally go crazy if we did.
